Say a prayer for Dominic

After yesterdays post when I talked about my fear of what if’s, today has been an unhappy irony. Mike’s mother fell on our stairs this morning while she was carrying Dominic. She is shaken and bruised. After a trip to the local hospital here (thankfully the X-Ray machine was working today and the technician was at work) it turns out that Dominic has a broken femur.

Our emergency medical insurance company is going to get us to Bangkok as soon as possible tomorrow – maybe even by sending an air ambulance. Under the telephone advice of a doctor in Thailand we’ve splinted Dominic’s leg using cardboard and gauze, another pediatrician friend in Australia provided advice on pain relief (thanks Asha!), and we’re doing everything we can to keep him as comfortable as possible.

If you could say a prayer for Dominic – it could be a very long night (or several). If you could say a prayer for Mike and I – it could be a very long night (or several). And if you could say a prayer for Mike’s mother – she has been sick for most of the time she’s been here, and now this. Finally, if you have any prayers left over, will you send up a quick petition that this is the worst wedding anniversary Mike and I ever have?

  2. Absolutely count on prayers from this household. I’ll also ask our church to start praying. Before you know it, you’ll be surrounded by prayers from around the world, guys. Little Dominic, I pray for angels around you to carry you softly so you don’t feel any pain as you travel. Lisa, as a mom, i know this is your worst day ever. Be strong, trusting that you are doing the absolute best you can for him, because you are. Praying…

  3. Lisa, I’m so sorry you guys are having to go through all this. Know that I’m praying for Dominic, for you and Mike, and for Mike’s mom. I’m praying that all the details will come together as quickly as possibly to transport Dominic to a place where he can get treatment and relief from pain. And I’m praying for the medical team who will treat him. Praying God’s supernatural peace for Dominic’s mom and dad!

  4. Absolutely. Praying for a quick recovery for all of you, all the way from Chile!

  5. This is the kind of anniversary where “in sickness and in health” takes on new meaning. I’m praying for restoration, healing, patience and all things needful for you to get through this. May God bless you all!

  6. Totally praying for you all. Sending hugs and encouragement that Dominic comes from a family who have had more than their fair share of medical evacuation emergencies but have recovered 100%. Our love and thoughts are with you especially at this time.

  7. Thinking of you all, and hoping that you get to Bangkok soon and that Dominic is on the mend again!

  8. Oh, no! Lisa, you and your sweet family are always in my prayers, but I’ll redouble my efforts. Wish I could give you a hard hug and a cup of strong coffee… Sending love and prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery (for everyone)! Love, Nicole

  11. Oh my goodness….I’m so sorry to hear this Lisa, and will definitely be praying for you, Mike, Dominic, and Mike’s mom. You’re strong and God will get you through this, but you already knew that!

  12. Oh Lisa, I cannot imagine. I have prayed, with tears in my eyes. Healing and peace, healing and peace, healing and peace. And other practical things like wise medical professionals and such. And comfort for baby D.

  13. Lord, have mercy on Dominic, his parents and grandmother. Lay your healing hand on Dominic’s broken limb and answer the prayers of all the loved ones who are now beseeching you for your power and love. In the name of our Loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen

  14. Praying for you and your family, all the way from the Netherlands!

  15. I realize you dont know me, but I have read your book and keep up with your blog and gypsy-like life ;). I always enjoy your writing, weather in essay form or just a conversational piece between you and your husband Mike (hilarious, by the way). But I wanted to let you know I am praying for you and your little family, and that God would touch Dominic’s leg and bring relieve from pain and a speedy recovery. Your in my prayers!

  16. Oh dear! Praying for you, Mike, Mike’s mum and your darling Dominic. I know somewhat how you feel after spending a wedding anniversary, which started well, with a nonstop vomiting 11 month old Louisa. It also ended in the hospital (just up the road though, not in another country)! I know exactly how you must be feeling right now; wanting to take the pain away; to be the one to suffer not him! And I feel so bad for Mike’s mum imagining what she must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all. I’ll pray and wait for news that everyone is on the mend. Xxxxxx

  17. As a mother and grandmother, I’m praying all those prayers earnestly. Travel carefully.
    With love,

  18. My heart is with you. My boys had many broken bones – they all learned what to do and what not to do as a result. Fortuantely, none managed to do so before they were two. .The good thing is that mending occurs. At times it seemed like I was in more pain than the boys were. These events begin the dinner table talk and turn into something one ends up smiling and being amazed by how things transpire. I’m hoping the angels with continue to be watching over you – as they have and always will do. Please give Mikes Mum a special hug from me, and of course to Dominic and his wonderful parents who know just what to do (cardboard splints, pediatric consults and pain killers, with a lot of love mixed in). Congratulations another year, with Dominic blessing your family it has been the best ever I am sure. God is with you. Strength to you all with Much Love Santo xxx

  27. Lisa, praying for peace for you and Mike, and healing for Dominic and Mike’s mother.

You are on our Tuesday night Bible study group.

Love for you and your family.

  28. Lisa, we are praying. Sending lots of love.

  29. Sending love and prayers your way, Lisa — and a hopeful story: A friend’s baby fell off a changing table at 5 months and broke her leg — and we were astonished to learn how quickly it healed — much faster than an adult’s! I hope all goes smoothly from now on and it becomes just a “worst anniversary” story!

  30. Big hug from me and Paolo. We pray Dominic gets better soon.

  31. o goodness, got shakey just reading this. How scary! Praying.
